A seven-year-old boy from Duncan is suffering from multiple burns after a boat he was on exploded.
Just minutes of being on a family boat down at Lake LBJ in Kingsland,Texas. 6 year old, Bently Mehringer said something didn’t smell right.
“I smelled fire, I mean gas and then I went up to check and then there was a big explosion," said Bentley.
A couple of family members and their dog flew into the air. Bentley and two of his younger cousins were in the bottom cabin of the boat when the back end of the it exploded leaving Bentley with burns all over his body.
“I was just terrified," said Bentley’s mother, Breanna Sullivan.
She said at first she wasn’t sure where her son was and started to panic thinking she had already lost him..
“Bentley asked me a question when he was laying there. He looked at me and said mommy am I going to die and that probably where I lost it the most I don’t even think he was crying but I was balling," said Bentlys’ mother.
She later learned Bentley had been a hero by helping his two cousins escape first before getting out of the burning boat.
“I’m a super hero.” “Yes you are a super hero," said Bentley and his mother.
Bentley is recovering at a Children’s Hospital in Austin, TX.
“His face is second degree mostly, he has burns down his shins that are second degree and on the tops of his feet and he has where his t-shirt stops, he has second degree burns down his arms. His left forearm is where they were watching for third degree it’s a little deeper than the rest of them," said Bentley’s mother.
Due to COVID-19, the Hospital is restricting friends and families from traveling to Texas to see Bentley while he’s recovering but they have been to talk through video chat.
If you want to help out with Bentley’s medical expenses you can visit Coaches Corner’s LLC Facebook page. They are selling t-shirts and koozies to help with expenses. Orders can only be made online or you can donate to the Helping Bentley & Family Facebook page.

Diesel heater sparks blaze that scorched sailboat in Kingston - Kingston, WA

A Kingston couple living aboard their sailboat were displaced after a diesel heater sparked a blaze aboard the vessel moored at the Port of Kingston Marina.
According to a statement from North Kitsap Fire & Rescue, a diesel heater was the likely cause of the fire aboard the 40-foot liveaboard. Responders believe that the heater ignited clothing left nearby. While no injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported, the family’s cat was reported to have been hurt in the blaze. A small dog also appeared to escape the fire without harm.
NKF&R Crews received the call to the marina just before 5 p.m. Friday after a bystander called 911. Crews arrived at the scene in just over five minutes and discovered only light smoke and were informed by the caller that the owner of the boat had managed to squelch the flames using a garden hose before leaving to rush his injured cat to the vet. Fire crews extinguished remaining hot spots and also removed as much smoke as possible from the cabin.
When the owner of the boat returned, he told firefighters that he’d lit the boats diesel heater and left to go ashore and use the marina’s facilities, when he returned he saw smoke and flames coming from the boat. While the fire caused significant damage to the interior of the sailboat, the hull did not appear to be affected.
According to NKF&R, the American Red Cross is assisting the couple who is thought to have been uninsured.
