A boat was damaged early Monday morning after it caught fire in the North Portland Harbor.
Just after 3 a.m., Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to the south channel dock on North Bridgeton Road. Crews arrived to the scene and found a 40-foot boat fully-involved.
Crews on land and water worked to extinguish the fire. PF&R said a fuel fire began at the stern which required crews to use dry chemical extinguishers to completely extinguish the fire.
Once the fire was under control, PF&R said crews shifted focus to preventing the boat from sinking and protecting the environment.
No one was onboard the boat at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The cause is currently under investigation.

Folks could see flames on St Andrews Marina late Sunday evening.
Officials from the Coast Guard told NewsChannel 7 there was engine trouble on board a boat a little after 8 P.M.
Officials said the three crew members realized they couldn’t mitigate the fire in the engine room, causing them to abandon ship.
“They jumped overboard,” Marine Science Technician 1st Class Brendan Kyle Blackwell said. “The commercial towing vessel, Miss Niz, actually got underway from St. Andrew’s Marina and rescued all three individuals.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials also said the ship isn’t a risk to the public, but the Panama City Fire Department is monitoring the area.

'No place to go': Houseboat fire on Sacramento River leaves family without home - Sacramento, CA

4/10/2022

In less than 10 minutes a family living in a houseboat on the Sacramento River lost their home to a fire.
"We have no place to live, no place to go," Patrick Noone said. "We have to pay out of pocket to go find a place to put ourselves. I have to provide for my family somehow and I can't even work now with having to do all of that."
The fire happened Friday evening around 6 p.m. near the Steamboat Landing at the Sacramento River. Several fire departments including the River Delta Fire District are now investigating how the fire started. Also damaged by the fire was the dock and approximately one acre of vegetation on Highway 160.
Kayla McCall shared video with KCRA 3. She said the fire quickly turned their family's decades of savings into debris.
Noone was emotional as he recounted the 20 years of savings it took him to buy his 70-foot boat in Southern California.
McCall and Noone had been living with their daughters at the dock along the highway for three years.
They said some insurance money should kick in but don't believe it'll cover the entire cost of the boat.
The family is depending on donations from friends and family to help them buy new clothes and essentials for their children.
After the fire, the River Delta Fire District sent out its oil spill recovery trailer to the scene to protect the environment and wildlife from the oil and fuel.
