A lobster boat caught fire in Plymouth Bay Friday afternoon, Plymouth Fire Chief Ed Bradley told Boston 25 News.
The fire, which was located by the Cordage Channel, was reported around 12:20 p.m.
Bradley said the operator, who was the only person on board, had been pulling and setting lobster pots when he started to smell smoke. The operator discovered a small fire in the engine compartment and attempted to extinguish the flames, but he was unsuccessful. He later discovered the battery compartment was also burning.
The boat then lost electricity, including the use of radios, according to Bradley. The operator used his cell phone to call Plymouth Fire.
Commercial fishermen who were working in the area at the time of the fire rescued the operator before firefighters arrived.
Bradley said the 22′ Sisu lobster boat suffered heavy fire damage. TowBoatUS got the boat back to shore.
The Plymouth Harbormaster assisted firefighters at the scene.

Four boaters were injured Sunday night at the Charleston Harbor Marina’s fueling station near Patriots Point after an explosion and small fire on their craft.
Mount Pleasant Fire Chief Mike Mixon said a fellow boater reported hearing the explosion around 9 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, a small fire had been extinguished in the engine room.
Three people on board the boat were transported to a hospital, Mixon said, and a fourth refused an ambulance but later sought treatment. Some of the injuries were “pretty severe,” but none appeared life-threatening, according to Mixon.
It’s not yet clear what caused the fire, but Mixon said it appeared to be a fueling accident. It’s the only boat explosion the department has responded to in recent memory, according to Mixon.
The boat remained afloat, and there was no serious damage to surrounding vessels or property, according to a marina manager.

6 yachts damaged after fire erupts at Virginia Key marina - Miami, FL

5/21/2020

MIAMI (WSVN) - A fire that sparked at a marina in Virginia Key destroyed three luxury yachts and left three others badly damaged.
City of Miami Fire Rescue crews responded to the blaze near the Rusty Pelican, located along the Rickenbacker Causeway, at around 10:45 a.m., Thursday.
Officials said a City of Miami fire boat was out on the water near Key Biscayne doing training exercises when crew members spotted the smoke coming from the marina.
“The crews saw that while they were out drilling, as a matter of fact, on the other side of the Rickenbacker Causeway bridge,” said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll.
The fire boat responded to the scene and called for backup.
“The most important element was having a fire boat that could pull right up to the fire and extinguish it as quickly as possible, as well as preventing the spread to neighboring or adjacent vessels,” said Carroll.
Six boats ranging from 49 to 60 feet were damaged in the fire. Three were destroyed while the other three sustained extensive heat damage.
7News viewers sent in pictures of smoke billowing into the air taken from miles away.
Carroll said getting those flames under control was no small feat.
“You had about 50 firefighters out here, also with the assistance of a Miami-Dade fire boat that also responded,” he said.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in about 45 minutes.
Miami Fire’s dive team responded to the scene as a precaution.
“You had firefighters battling a fire along the marina. If they were to fall into the water, you need to have a response component there to assist them,” said Carroll.
No injuries were reported, and officials believe the boats were unoccupied when the flames broke out.
Crews sprayed foam over the yachts, and hazmat teams monitored the situation for potential gas leaks.
Miami Fire and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
“[We will] first get in contact with owners to determine when was the last time anybody was on the boat, when there was any work being performed on the boat,” said Carroll.

A 60-foot sport fisherman boat caught fire in the intracoastal waterway just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The boat could be seen ablaze behind Shooters Restaurant, just south of Oakland Park Boulevard.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan said there were seven adults, 2 children and a dog aboard the vessel.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had just completed a traffic stop on the water when they saw smoke coming from the back of the 60-footer.

FWC were able to transfer the adults and children, approximately ages 4 and 7 years old, and dog to safety aboard the FWC boat just before the sport fisherman erupted in flames.
A woman and one of the children on the boat suffered minor burns. She was treated at the scene and the 7-year-old child was transported to Broward Health Medical Center.
The cause of the fire is not known.
