JUNO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Nineteen people aboard a burning 45-foot commercial boat were rescued by a good Samaritan, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
It happened about 300 yards off Juno Beach Saturday evening.
The U.S. Coast Guard sent a search and rescue crew from Lake Worth.

The Good Samaritan arrived at the burning boat before the Coast Guard and was able to rescue all 19 people.
None of them was injured.
The Coast Guard told CBS12 the fire came from the engine room, but the agency is still working to determine exactly what sparked the flames.

A 32-foot boat Monday exploded Monday in a channel just off Stock Island, sending two men to a Miami hospital by air, county officials said.

Monroe County Fire Rescue responded at 9:29 a.m. to the explosion near the Stock Island Marina. Four people were aboard the Contender when the explosion took place, said county spokeswoman Cammy Clark. Two suffered burn injuries.

William Parker, 53, of St. Augustine and boat owner Wendal Lynn, 42, of Waynesboro, Ga., were taken by Monroe County Trauma Star to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami.

Two other men, Ronald Miller, 34, and Don Mosely, 55, both of Lyons, Ga., suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.

“Preliminary information indicates the explosion may have been caused by Parker lighting a cigarette, which ignited gas fumes,” Clark said. The boat had just stopped at the marina gas station for about 85 gallons of fuel, according to an incident report of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Monroe County’s Deputy Fire Marshal and the state Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.

Minors injured in boat fire at Folsom Lake - Folsom Lake, CA

7/24/2017

Several minors were transported to a nearby hospital with burns after a boat caught fire at Folsom Lake Sunday afternoon.

The boat was at Browns Ravine Marina when El Dorado Hills firefighters were sent to extinguish the fire just before 4 p.m.

Someone was fueling the boat when a “flash fire” ignited gasoline vapor when the boat’s ignition was turned.

An adult with a fire extinguisher was present and used it to make sure the fire was out, according to El Dorado Hills Fire Department spokesman Russ Hasemeir.

The minors all suffered minor burns.

Hasemeir used the incident as a reminder to make sure boaters make sure engine ventilation systems are operating to prevent gasoline vapors from igniting. If the boat is not equipped with a ventilation system make sure you wait for any gasoline fumes to evaporate before attempting to start the motor.

Boat Fuel Vapor Flash Fire Injures 5 Children - El Dorado Hills, CA

7/24/2017

Five children under the age of 15 have been injured on Folsom Lake after a fuel vapor flash on a boat.

Folsom Lake Marina officials say the man operating the 18-foot boat had just put fuel in it before subsequently starting the engine on Sunday, which may have ignited the fuel vapors. Everyone on the boat jumped off and was helped to safety after the explosion.

“We talked to one of the dock workers and they said there was an engine fire and some girls got burned badly,” a witness said.

The victims were taken to a hospital to get treatment for first- and second-degree burns.

All five victims are expected to survive.

Alisa Schaedler, a witness who arrived at Brown’s Ravine Marina just after the incident, says a good vapor flash example is when a barbecue backfires after lighting it with the lid on.

Fire destroys vessels, boat dock at Lake Texoma - Pottsboro, TX

7/19/2017

A major fire destroyed a boat dock and damaged several boats on Lake Texoma Wednesday morning.

For Ann and Keith Graumann there was a bit of relief -- they spotted their boat away from the fire.

It happened at the Highport Marina in Pottsboro, which is about an hour and a half north of Dallas. Fuel tanks and oil burned for hours, destroying about 15 to 20 boats. But there were no injuries.

"We drove around and saw that ours is a couple of docks away,” Keith said. “We’re thankful Highport did that for us.”

A ramp leading to the docked boats at Highport Marina also caught fire, making access for firefighters even more difficult.

"Because we're lots of volunteer departments in this area the response time wasn't as quick, by the time we could get engines on scene the fire had already spread to multiple boats,” said Trenton Gray, North Texas Regional Airport FD.

People on the scene estimated the total damage was likely in the millions.

“We would like to sincerely thank the first responders who were on the scene, as well as our employees and customers who were at the marina and helped keep others safely away from the fire,” Highport Marina said.

The marina plans to work with boat owners who will now have to move, repair or replace their vessels.

Officials plan to monitor and respond to any potential adverse affects to the water quality at the lake.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
