A Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club official credits a 12-year-old boy with preventing the spread of a fire there Friday night.

The flames destroyed a 32-foot boat docked at the club and a sailboat next to it sustained heat damage, but officials say it could have been much worse. The club's commodore, Alex Nanai, says the boy, whose name is Dylan Riccio, was the one who first spotted the fire and called 911.

News 12 is told firefighters extinguished the blaze within 10 minutes of arriving at the scene.

The commodore says that were it not for Riccio, the whole marina could have gone up in flames.

The fire marshal is investigating what caused the fire.

Firefighters extinguish boat fire in Hillsboro Beach - Hillsboro Beach, FL

Two boats were destroyed Saturday afternoon in Hillsboro Beach when one of them caught fire.

It was about 2 p.m. when the fire started on a 24-foot boat and then spread to a 42-foot boat. Flames tore through the boats along the 900 block of Hillsboro Mile.

Michael and Ann Welsh were on the road when they saw the flames coming from a docked boat.

The wind was blowing a large cloud of dark smoke east as firefighters approached the boats.

Jim Lambert was stunned to learn his boat was destroyed.

"I was across the street in my house on the third floor with my son installing a new TV, and he looks out the window and says, 'Dad, our boat is on fire,'" Lambert said. "When we came down, a friend of mine was here trying to push this little vessel that caught on fire out to the intercostal away from the dock, but it was just too late."

Several people were on board when the fire started and they had to escape. They were seen on dry land speaking with investigators.

"The people jumped on another boat, and that one drifted under my boat instead of someone else's," Lambert said.

The boat drifted toward Lambert's 42-foot Invincible and the fire spread.

Firefighters extinguished the flames from the dock. The boats were deemed total losses, but Lambert is grateful that no one was injured.

"Nobody got hurt. Just two boats totaled," Lambert said. "Could be worse."

Firefighters are battling a blaze this morning at the Richmond Yacht Basin in eastern Henrico County.

Capt. Taylor Goodman of the Henrico Division of Fire said 12-15 boats were affected. Initial reports of 30 boats were high, Goodman said.

There's no estimate of damage yet, Goodman said, adding that it's "obviously substantial."

The Henrico fire department's fire boat was damaged in the blaze, making it unavailable to fight the fire.
Goodman said they do not yet know what caused the blaze.

About 30 firefighters were part of the response to the blaze. This included Henrico and Chesterfield crews as well as firefighters from Richmond International Airport.

The yacht basin is just west of Interstate 295 on the James River.

Fire tore through a 60-foot luxury yacht as it was docked behind a home in Apollo Beach Tuesday night.

Crews rushed to the home on Dolphin Cove Drive around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. There wasn’t much that could be done; the yacht was destroyed.

The owner tells News Channel 8 he planned to sell the boat and showed it to an interested couple recently.

It had three staterooms, a kitchen and bathroom.

The listing price was $225,000, according to an online boat sales website.

Neighbors could see the fire from afar. “We could see the flames shooting up over the roof of the house,” said Pat Stone, who banged on the owner’s door to alert him to the fire.

Boat fire shuts down Biloxi street - Biloxi, MS

12/7/2016

Several firefighters were on the scene of a boat fire in Biloxi's Back Bay late Wednesday night.

Biloxi police have closed off parts of Bayview Avenue.

The Biloxi Fire Department's boat is on the water still working to put out the smoke on the charred vessel.

Firefighters are using a firefighting foam to put out hotspots. The foam is an alternative to water, because using too much water could sink the boat.

The 30-foot cabin cruiser appears to have extensive fire damage. No word yet on when the boat fire started or whether anybody was on board.

We will continue to update the story as we get more information on WLOX News as well as WLOX.com.
