A spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Management, Michael Healey, said environmental police investigators are focusing on the possibility of an electrical problem leading to a fire that spread quickly on Thursday night.
Five young people had been on the MayCraft brand boat, powered by an inboard engine, before fire engulfed the entire vessel, Healey said.
“The fact that nobody died and nobody was injured is a miracle,” Healey said.
Dispatchers at the DEM received a call from Glocester police and went to the scene at 8:56 p.m. on Thursday, Healey said. An investigation continues.
