WPTZ-TV reports the boat caught fire during a launch in the Missisquoi Bay Wednesday evening. Swanton Village Fire Department contained the blaze before the remnants of the boat eventually sank.
Trucks pulled the remaining pieces of the boat out of the water.
Assistant fire chief Jason Cross says the situation was challenging, as crews had to make sure onlookers stayed away from the boat for fear of it exploding.
The owner of the boat says the fire started after the boat's engine backfired.
