According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Richard Sullivan, of Ashland, Mo. was driving the 1987 Chris Craft around the 6 Mile Marker, not far from Coconuts Bar & Grill. Sullivan had just finished pulling some tubers when he noticed smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment, the Patrol says. All of the occupants got off the boat safely and were helped out of the water by a passing boater. The boat quickly became a floating fireball and drifted toward the shore, authorities say.
Rocky Mount Fire District responded, and no other damage was reported as a result of the boat fire. Once extinguished, the boat was towed by Lake Tow.
