On Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 11:47 a.m., the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call, reporting a boat explosion and fire on Big Turtle Lake located in rural Itasca County.
Initial reports were four occupants were in the boat, two children and two adults. Early reports were the two children were thrown from the boat and were wearing life jackets. The two adults jumped from the boat.
Bystanders and Arcadia Lodge staff were able to pull the occupants from the water, bringing them safely to shore.
Three occupants were transported by Bigfork Ambulance to Bigfork Hospital and treated for first- and second-degree burns to the legs.
The boat wreckage was pulled safely to shore and the fire extinguished resulting in no environmental impact.
