A boat caught on fire on Keuka Lake. Officials in Yates County received multiple calls for a boat fire around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. The fire broke out close to East Bluff Drive.
According to a press release we received from the Yates County Sheriffs Office early this morning, a 19 and a half foot Searay boat was fully engulfed in flames. The boat was just 50 yards from shore.
The operator of the boat told officials that his boat had stalled and he was attempting to restart it when a possible fuel leak ignited. Both the operator and a passenger jumped off the boat with life vests and swam to shore. Neither one of them were hurt.
The fire was put out. Officials say the boat is a total loss.
