Bourne Deputy Fire Chief Ryan M. Haden said firefighters from the Pocasset fire station were called to the scene around 1 PM. On arrival, they found a 42-foot vessel on fire. The sole occupant of the boat was in the water. That person was pulled to safety by firefighters who then went on board to extinguish the flames.
“The occupant had used a fire extinguisher on board to partially put out the fire,” Dep. Chief Haden said. "Our guys were able to put the fire out completely.”
Dep. Chief Haden said firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Bourne Department of Natural Resources and the US Coast Guard.
The occupant was taken to Falmouth Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Dep. Chief Haden said.
