Clinton firefighters were called to the Clinton marina at 11:19 a.m. today for a fire on a 1967 22-foot boat in the Mississippi River. Clinton Fire Department's Fred Roling said the fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived.
An initial investigation indicates the boat's owner was having issues with the motor after fueling at the marina. Roling said bystanders said the owner was in the boat, with another person on the edge of the dock.
While the owner was on the boat, Roling said the motor experienced a rapid fire ignition, which caused a minor fire. The fire was put out quickly, Roling said. Minor injuries were reported, but no one was transported to the hospital. There was no spillage into the river, Roling said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The owner of the boat was not named.
