Boat catches fire under Newport Bridge Sunday - Newport, RI

The Portsmouth Fire Department and the Coast Guard responded to a boat fire under the Newport Pell Bridge Sunday afternoon.

The first reports of the fire came in around 2:30 p.m.

Heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the fire as Portsmouth’s rescue boat was en route. According to a tweet from the Portsmouth Fire Department, it took their marine crew thirty-two minutes to reach the boat fire.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrew Barresi tells Eyewitness News a good Samaritan got everybody off of the burning vessel before rescue crews arrived.

The Coast Guard put up a safety zone in the area to make sure no other boats got close to the burning one.

Boat catches fire at Edgewater marina - Edgewater, MD

A 35-foot boat docked at a pier at Pocahontas Marina in Edgewater caught fire on Thursday, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said.

A passerby called 911 around 9:04 p.m. reporting smoke and a popping sound coming from a 35-foot pleasure cruiser docked near Pier A of the marina, in the 3300 block of Pocahontas Drive, Lt. Erik Kornmeyer said.

Twenty-seven firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in around 20 mintues
No one was aboard the boat at the time of the fire and the flames were contained to a small area of the galley, Kornmeyer said.

No one was injured. The blaze is estimated to have caused around $10,000 in damage to the boat, fire officials said Friday morning.

No other boats were damaged.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature, fire officials said.

Firefighters battle yacht fire in Sarasota - Sarasota, FL

Firefighters were able to put out an engine fire Wednesday aboard an 80-foot yacht that was docked at the Marina Jack.

Smoke was seen coming out of the boat, named Risk & Reward, at about 1:30 Wednesday.

Firefighters towed the boat away from the dock and quickly extinguished the fire in the engine compartment. They also knocked out windows on the yacht in order to ventilate the cabin.

No one was injured and it's not known if anyone was aboard the boat.

Firefighters from Sarasota Police Department, Longboat Key Fire Department, Sarasota County Fire Department responded to the fire. The Coast Guard also responded to the incident.
