Units from the Yorktown and Grafton fire stations and the department’s fire and rescue boat responded around 10 a.m. to a report of a boat on fire in the 1000 block of Wormley Creek Drive. The street is in the Marlbank subdivision, across Wormley Creek from Wormley Creek Marina.
There, firefighters found a boat that was already “fully involved” with fire, according to the release.
Crews immediately set to work protecting adjacent boats, piers and vegetation from the fire. Containment booms were deployed to catch any contaminants or debris in the water.
The Coast Guard and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality also responded to the scene. The department used its drone team to observe the scene and keep track of hazards.
The boat was a total loss, but no one was injured. According to the release, the fire is believed to been started by an electrical issue.
