Beaver Lake Fire Chief John Whisenant said the fire started around 12:45 Sunday afternoon just south of the HWY 12 bridge.
Advertisement"There was an explosion in the rear of the boat and it caught fire. The occupants were able to get off the boat and be picked up by passing by boats," Whisenant said.
No one was injured in the fire and all of the passengers were able to get off of the boat.
Whisenant said boat fires don't happen very often at Beaver Lake, but Sunday's fire was the third fire already this season.
"Thankfully, watercraft fires on Beaver Lake are rare. However, this is our third watercraft incident this year involving fire and the second of which with a total loss of the watercraft. While they are rare, they are a dangerous event and we are just thankful for the safety of the passengers on board," he said.
Beaver Lake Fire, Avoca Fire and Rocky Branch Fire assisted with the boat fire and rescue.
