The 45-foot-long, dual-mast sailboat was in a boat slip at the marina, located at 3340 W Shell Point Road. The fire started in an electrical outlet used to power the boat while docked and located in the hull, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
Fire Rescue received a 911 call reporting the fire around 5:40 p.m. Units from a "hazardous incident team" were called in to manage extinguishing the flame because of the challenge of fighting a fire in a floating boat tied to a dock.
Crews cut a hole in the boat over the outlet to put out the fire and clear the smoke from the vessel.
The boat sustained minor damage and no environmental impact or injuries were reported.
