The call came in at approximately 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to a home on Possum Trot Road in the Brices Creek area. Craven County Emergency Services Director Stanley Kite said a neighbor called 911 and said the boat was on fire and two people were burned. Township 7 Fire, Township 7 EMS and Bridgeton Fire all responded.
When they arrived, the fire was out but they found two people with second and third degree burns. The victims, reported to be a 56-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, were taken to Carolina East Medical Center. From there, they were taken by helicopter to another location.
Kite said the victims were burned on their arms, faces and legs. There is no word of their current conditions or locations.
The fire chief said the fire was an apparent accident so no investigation into the cause will be done.
