The U.S. Coast Guard public information office confirmed that the 38-foot lobster boat Prestige caught fire with two people aboard. The fire was reported at 4:20 p.m. May 18.
Knox County Regional Communications also received a report from a resident of Marshal Point Road of the boat on fire.
The Coast Guard Rockland station sent a vessel as did the Maine Marine Patrol. Local fishermen also responded and one of those Good Samaritans was credited with picking up the two people from the water.
They were not injured, according to the Coast Guard.
The vessel had been about five miles offshore when the fire was reported.
