Portland Fire and Rescue responded to the incident at 515 Northeast Tomahawk Island Drive at 9:56 a.m.
Fire officials say a 27-foot sailboat caught fire while in moorage. They say neighbors and the first crews on scene prevented the fire from spreading to nearby boats. A makeshift fire boat at the marina also stopped the flames from spreading.
They say a 54-year-old man was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and is in the burn unit. Officials say he suffered burns from "head to toe."
No official word on what sparked the fire, however, witnesses say there was an explosion. There are no signs of wrongdoing, investigators say.
Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office River Patrol also responded to assist.
