Multiple agencies responded to reports of a boat on fire and an explosion on Sunday afternoon, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said in a news release.
The boat, a 38-foot Carver, had just refueled and was beginning its journey when it caught fire and exploded, according to the initial investigation. Both the driver and passenger were thrown into the water by the blast, TWRA said.
A 49-year-old woman was taken to Tennova Healthcare, where she later died. A 56-year-old man from Clarksville, who was driving the boat, was being treated at Tennova as of Sunday night, according to the TWRA. The extent of the man's injuries and his condition were not available as of Monday morning.
TWRA, Clarksville Fire Rescue, Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency and Montgomery County Fire Service were all involved, the release said. An investigation into the incident is open.
